Our Company

Surface America is headquartered in Western New York with sales representation and installation crews in different regions of the United States. Jim Dobmeier founded Surface America as a subsidiary of Pennsylvania-based Ecore International in 1993. As an Ecore company, Surface America’s capabilities are broad, our bonding capacity is great, our financial strength is sure, our warranties are superior, and our approach to business is responsible. Ecore is also a primary manufacturer of many of Surface America’s surfacing & flooring systems, and product components, such as the ShockPad underlayment.

Our History

Ecore traces its history back to 1871 when D.W. Dodge established a cork business in New York. Following a relocation to Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1876 and becoming the nation’s second-largest cork company, the 1980s brought a transformation where it began focusing more on recycled rubber technology. Ecore is now the largest consumer of recycled scrap-tire rubber, reusing more than 75 million pounds of material each year. A Dodge family member still leads the business. All of its products – from commercial flooring and sports surfacing to rubber playground safety surfacing and sound insulation – are engineered with precision at every step to be the smartest solutions on the market. While the lion’s share of Ecore products are made from recycled rubber, cork is still very much a key ingredient in its products for the industrial, aerospace and automotive segments.
