Backyard Playgrounds

Backyard playgrounds are common. People often inquire about rubberized surfacing, which is prevalent in public playgrounds. Surface America is the leader in playground surfacing, with a coast-to-coast network of certified installation crews. Surface America offers three different systems.

About Base Construction
Any product is only as good as the base on which it is constructed. Typical base options in residential settings are contained crushed stone and concrete. Leveled soil is acceptable for tile products. Local landscaping contractors are often viable options for constructing the base. Surface America does not conduct or coordinate base construction.

Ready-To-Install, Factory-Produced Tile

• For backyard playground use, Surface America will provide tiles only in 4" thickness (meets 10’ critical fall height). All tiles are .5 meters (19.625") by 1 meter (39.25").
• Can order in any quantity.
• Order quantity for entire playground or high impact areas only.
• Installed over dirt, crushed stone, asphalt or concrete.
• Tiles can be fully adhered to asphalt or concrete (200 s.f./5-gallon pail), adhered side-to-side over dirt, crushed stone, asphalt or concrete (one tube/two tiles) or loose-laid over dirt, crushed stone, asphalt or concrete (no adhesive necessary).
• $39.00 per tile, plus Sales Tax and freight.
• $175.00 per 5-gallon pail of adhesive or $4.00 per tube of adhesive, plus Sales Tax and freight.
• Tiles and adhesive shipped on pallets. Customer must unload materials.
• Payment terms are 50% deposit to be placed on the installation schedule, 50% balance prior to shipment of materials. No credit cards accepted.

Seamless, Poured-in-Place

• For backyard playground use, Surface America will provide poured-in-place only in 4 1/2" thickness (4" basemat & 1/2" top surface), which meet 10’ critical fall height.
• When over 1,000 square feet, Surface America strongly recommends installation by a Surface America certified crew.
• If installer is other than Surface America, all materials-only purchases require payment in advance. No credit cards accepted.
• If installer is Surface America, customer must coordinate base construction prior to installation and provide photographs of completed site.
• Minimum pricing is $11.00 per square foot (delivered and installed). Price excludes excavation and base construction. Sales Tax and freight are additional.
• Payment terms are 50% in advance ... and 50% upon delivery of material. No credit cards accepted.

Synthetic Grass with Rubber Infill

• For backyard playground use, Surface America will provide poured-in-place only in 5" thickness (3" basemat & 2" synthetic grass with infill), which meet 8’ critical fall height.
• When over 1,000 square feet, Surface America strongly recommends installation by a Surface America certified crew.
• If installer is other than Surface America, all materials-only purchases require payment in advance. No credit cards accepted.
• If installer is Surface America, customer must coordinate base construction prior to installation and provide photographs of completed site.
• Minimum pricing is $11.00 per square foot (delivered and installed). Price excludes excavation and base construction. Sales Tax and freight are additional.
• Payment terms are 50% deposit to be placed on the installation schedule, 50% balance prior to shipment of materials. No credit cards accepted.
• For backyard playground use, standard green synthetic grass is only color option.
