PlayBound™ Poured-in-Place

Understanding The Safety Of Surface America Surfacing.

When evaluating the safety of a playground there are a number of critical components to consider including the type of surface being installed. To evaluate the safest option for your project it's important to understand the differences between surfacing types and the scientific facts regarding the safety of recycled rubber.

• Base options include crushed stone, concrete or asphalt

Proper drainage is critical to the longevity of the PlayBound Poured-in-Place surfacing system. Inadequate drainage will cause premature breakdown of the poured material in affected areas; and void the warranty.

1. Surface America works closely with the contractor to make sure the site is prepared and the installation is on schedule.

2. Consistency in the SBR and EPDM is crucial. A low dust content and high production quality lead to consistency. It reduces the amount of urethane that is absorbed by the dust and maximizes the amount of urethane that remains to bond granules and strands together, which provides the strength of the system.

3. Surface America’s PlayBound urethane is formulated for playgrounds and recreation areas. There are many types of urethane that are produced for a variety of other applications. Urethane for playground surfacing requires particular levels of tensile strength, flexibility, and working time versus curing time. It is critical that a proven urethane product be used.

4. Surface America’s mix of urethane and rubber is the ideal balance. We use a volume of urethane that provides strength and durability with a volume and density of rubber that maximizes resilience.

5. Surface America’s basemat provides maximum resilience. The basemat provides the shock absorbency in the system. The objective is to have a medium density layer with a medium amount of urethane in the mix. Too much urethane in the mix makes the system hard and unforgiving. Not enough urethane can result in a premature breakdown of the basemat.

6. Surface America has the industry’s best installer network. They are strategically located across the U.S. and fully trained in the specialty poured-in-place installation process. Surface America’s professional, full-time, poured-in-place applicators have installed millions of square feet of surfacing.

7. Surface America applies an industry-leading 2.44 lbs. per square foot in its top surface. A higher rate of material (as measured by weight) per square foot means a tougher, longer lasting top surface. Compare the weight of material that Surface America applies in the top surface to the competition.

8. Surface America offers an industry-leading warranty of 5 YEARS on every project! Contact our service consultants for more detail.
